Belonging to the Cebus <\/em>genus<\/a> and the Cebidea family, these are classified as primates of the New World, that is, native to South America, covering the Amazon basin all the way to southern Paraguay and northern Argentina and throughout all of Brazil. When erect, the penis has a nail like shape, giving it its popular name in Portuguese.<\/h4>\n

These are medium-size monkeys, weighing between 1.3 kg and 4.8 kg measuring on average 45 cm in length, not counting the tail \u2013 a common characteristics to primates of the New World. They are diurnal in habits and live in groups of up to 40 individuals. They feed basically on fruit and insects. There are reports of predatory action to other smaller mammals and the ingestion of bird eggs. Foi transferida para o zool\u00f3gico de Bras\u00edlia onde ficou alojada num recinto prec\u00e1rio sem condi\u00e7\u00f5es para uma vida digna.<\/p>\n

No ano de 2010 Katai foi transferida para o Instituto Anami. Quando chegou parecia muito assustada e desconfiada, para limpar seu recinto era imposs\u00edvel porque ela se recusava entrar no manejo, tinha medo de ficar trancada como ficou muitos anos na vida nos por\u00f5es do zool\u00f3gico. Um trauma que parecia ser irrevers\u00edvel. Com muita paci\u00eancia e dedica\u00e7\u00e3o, Katai foi aprendendo a confiar
\nem seus cuidadores e pouco a pouco foi cooperando com a equipe.<\/p>\n

Hoje com 34 anos, Katai esbanja seguran\u00e7a caminhando em seu recinto e interagindo com seus vizinhos macacos aranhas. Entra tranquilamente no seu quarto para que os tratadores possam limpar seu recinto externo com seguran\u00e7a.
